”I say to the LORD, 'You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.’ . . . The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup . . . I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad” (Psalm 16:2, 5, 8, 9).
Dear Praying Friends:
A few weeks ago, I spoke with a Chinese Christian friend, who said to me, ”Christ is my joy. What choice do I have? Everything else fails to satisfy.” This person had been through a lot of troubles, and had finally found not only comfort but also real joy, in Christ.
David had come to a similar conclusion: In God alone he found all that is good and constantly satisfying.
Sometimes just the title of a book will have an impact on me, even if I haven’t read it. John Piper’s A Godward Life, has furnished me with a powerful life-centering focus. Only as I look to God will I experience satisfaction, gladness, stability, and real joy. As I listened to the old hymn, “Be Thou My Vision” this morning, I once again turned it into a prayer for a Godward life.
“In your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).
Yours in his joy,
Wright
