”He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
Dear Praying Friends:
We all know people with hurting, perhaps even broken, hearts.
Maybe they have waited, seemingly forever, for some answer to prayer: ”Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12). Chronic physical pain can just wear you down until a deep grief grips your heart.
Strained, tense, or chronically painful relationships with loved ones can sap your emotional energy to the point of snapping.
Perhaps most heart-rending of all are persistent misunderstandings, unresolved conflicts, and a feeling of being rejected by people close to us - a spouse, parent, or child. You want so much to be reconciled, but nothing seems to work. Humanly speaking, the situation is intractable; the heart is just broken, apparently without remedy.
But God can repair broken hearts. He forgives our sins; fills us with his love; assures us that he really knows and understands; reminds us of his constant presence with us; and promises us that one day, when Christ returns, the Father himself will wipe away every tear from our eyes (Revelation 21:4).
We have this good news to share with ourselves and those whom God sends our way. We can’t just rush in with platitudes, of course. After much prayer, listening long and hard and communicating empathy and love, we may have an opportunity to communicate this comforting truth: God does heal the broken-hearted!
”He lifts up the afflicted” (Psalm 147:6).
Yours in the tender love of our Heavenly Father,
Wright
