“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their sorrows” (Psalm 147:3).
Does your heart crack with grief over the loss of a loved one? He knows the pain of seeing a Son die. His Spirit can comfort your soul.
Do you grieve over a disrespectful, foolish, or wayward child or grandchild? Our Father bore with the folly and idolatry of Israel, his “firstborn son” (Exodus 4:22), and now has to endure similar treatment from us, his “sons” in Christ Jesus.
Do sorrows sweep over you because of an unhappy marriage, childlessness, chronic illness, frustrating work, or relational breakdown? Our Lord Jesus was also a “man of sorrows.” He knows, and even now prays for us (Romans 8:34).
Do waves of guilt pound your conscience with relentless blows? God sent his Son to die for sinners, “the just for the unjust,” that in Christ we might know full forgiveness.
Do sharp arrows of remorse pierce your mind with “what might have been”? God is Lord of your past, your present, and your future. He causes all things to work together for good for those who love him. Cast your sorrows upon him and rest in his wise providence.
As the Great physician, God alone can cure emotional heart disease and bind up our wounds with his healing love. (Adapted and expanded from Worship and Wisdom).
“He has sent Me [Jesus] to heal the brokenhearted” (Luke 4:18).
Yours in the healing love of our Lord Jesus,
