Reaching Chinese Worldwide: Books
April 2024
“Him [Christ] we preach [proclaim], warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect [mature, complete] in Christ Jesus” (Colossians 1:28).
Dear Praying Friends:
As you know, we seek to share the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27) with ethnic Chinese worldwide and to mobilize others to do the same.
We do this in four ways: Prayer, Publications, Personal Relationships, and Proclamation.
Our publications include three websites as well as books, both printed and online. In this letter, I’d like to introduce you to the printed books that I have written and edited.
Studies in Chinese Christianity
GCC Senior Associate Dr. Carol Lee Hamrin and I edited this twenty-volume series of books about Chinese Christianity, to which five other GCC Associates also contributed in various ways (John Barwick, Stacey Bieler, Yading Li, Ann Cui-an Peng, Gloria Tseng). It is the largest and most extensive such collection available.[1]
Studies in Chinese Christianity includes a general history of Christianity in China as well as histories of the spread of the gospel in several provinces. Three volumes describe the Protestant churches of the last several decades. The Translation of the Chinese Bible tells the thrilling story of how the Word of God was made available to what is now one of the largest churches in the world.
Biographical studies trace the lives and legacies of prominent Chinese Christians and Western missionaries. Among these, I edited Builders of the Chinese Church: Pioneer Protestant Missionaries and Chinese Christian Leaders and Wise Man from the East: Lit-sen Chang (Zhang Lisheng), which includes an introduction by me and translations by Dr. Samuel Ling and me of two works by this great Chinese theologian.
In addition, there are stand-alone volumes:
Equipping Christians for Ministry among Chinese
China: Ancient Culture, Modern Society, co-authored with Dr. Peter Xiaoming Yu
Reaching Chinese Worldwide
Biblical and Theological Studies
Carl Henry: Theologian for All Seasons
Christ the King: Meditations on Matthew’s Gospel (A devotional commentary)
Worship and Wisdom: Commentary on selected Psalms and Proverbs
Jesus: The Complete Man
The Lord’s Healing Words (What the Bible says about physical, mental, and spiritual health)
All these books aim to meet particular needs among both Western and Chinese Christians.[2]
Would you pray that God would use these writings to build his church?
Yours in his grace,
Wright
