Jesus Christ and Confucius (Kongzi) stand at the head of two mighty rivers of thought and practice, each with around one billion followers.

Confucius is the acknowledged Sage in China, Korea, Japan, and Viet Nam. Jesus claims allegiance as both Sage and Savior from people in every country of the world.

Both command respect for their lives and obedience to their teachings.

In important ways, their careers exhibit striking similarities.

At the same time, significant, even fundamental differences distinguish them from each other, so that throughout history, including the present time, they have often faced off as competing rivals.

Nevertheless, these two traditions, which are both quite alive, have been in almost constant contact for more than five hundred years, sometimes challenging, but often also inviting the other to dialogue.

This book falls into two parts. The first will look at what major Christian interpreters have said about Confucius, and the second will provide a close case study of what the words and deeds of Confucius and Christ have to say about the ideal man.
