“But the LORD shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness” (Psalm 9:7-8).
Dear Praying Friends:
I broke two of my personal rules last night. First, I had to write a letter to a friend, so I went on the Internet after supper. My browser (Edge) immediately displayed news headlines, and I broke my second rule: Never read the news at night.
Well, the headlines told of Russia’s renewed threats to use nuclear weapons, especially after the recent incursion by Ukraine. China and the U.S. seem to be on the brink of war over Taiwan. One story was apparently about how to survive nuclear war. And the hurricane season is not over. I didn’t read any of the articles, but the headlines grabbed my attention.
Here, we must be very careful. On the one hand, “The prudent sees danger and hides himself” (Proverbs 27:12). So, at the very least, we should follow the FEMA guidelines (www.fema.gov/pdf/areyouready/basic_preparedness.pdf). Given our current situation, perhaps we should do more than that.
On the other hand, we must not give way to fear. When David was surrounded by fierce enemies, he reminded himself that God rules over the nations from his righteous throne. He will certainly do what is just and right. Furthermore, “the LORD will be a refuge in times of trouble.” And he has never “forsaken those who seek [him]” (Psalm 9:9-10). Therefore, we who know his name must put our trust in him (v. 10). He will take care of his people, including us.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
Yours in his powerful protection,
Wright
