“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their sorrows” (Psalm 147:3).
Dear Praying Friends:
This verse, found in a psalm that focuses on God’s providential care of his people, his power over nature, and his unique revelation to Israel, includes one of the most comforting statements in the Bible: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their sorrows.”
In other words, the God who chose the descendants of Abraham as a people and who displays his omnipotence over the stars, just judgment of the wicked, and power over the rain and the frost, also takes note of individuals who, for various reasons, feel emotionally crushed and wounded.
Many of the people we know, both Chinese and Western – including many of you – are afflicted with sorrow and sadness, to the point of feeling brokenhearted.
What a great consolation to have a God who displays not only power, but pity, and who governs not only entire peoples and this vast universe, but also knows us, cares for us, and promises to bring inner healing!
Thank you for praying for us in the past few weeks and months. God has been listening!
“The LORD raises those who are bowed down” (Psalm 8).
Yours in his tender care,
Wright
