“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me” (Psalm 50:23).
Dear Praying Friends:
In this psalm, God summons his people to judgment, and he reproves them for worshiping him with sacrifices while engaging in flagrant obedience to his commands and even forgetting him (Psalm 50:22 ESV).
Instead, he urges them to call on him in the day of trouble, and to offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving. Paul echoes the same idea often (see Colossians 3:15-17; 4:2).
Thank you for praying last week. The Lord enabled me to continue working on the story about Roland Allen; post an article on a faithful Chinese pastor on the BDCC (https://www.bdcconline.net/en/stories/li-zizeng); write a monthly prayer letter on “Connections” (www.reachingchineseworldwide.org/newsletter/2024/6/22/june-prayer-letter); and send an announcement of two new resources from Global China Center to the members of the Yale-Edinburgh Group on World Christianity and the History of Mission, of which I am a member:
Chinese Christianity in Context (reachingchineseworldwide.org/chinese-christianity-in-context) and Confucius and Christ: The Sage and the Savior (reachingchineseworldwide.org/confucius-and-christ-the-sage-and-the-savior).
I have also made a collection of the devotional messages from my weekly prayer updates for the past two years, called With Christ in Times of Trial (reachingchineseworldwide.org/with-christ-in-times-of-trial). See also the new covers for several of my online books (reachingchineseworldwide.org/books).
“Through [Christ] let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name” (Hebrews 13:15 ESV).
Yours in his kindness and comfort,
Wright
