“The God of Israel – he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!” (Psalm 68:35).
Dear Praying Friends:
In this psalm, David celebrates God’s victories over his enemies and the final procession of the Ark of God into Jerusalem. Paul applies these themes to the great victory won by Christ at his resurrection and ascension after dying for us, and his lavish gifts to the church for its growth and ministry (Ephesians 4:7-13).
David concludes by praising God, who “gives strength and power to his people” (35). Paul again echoes David when he prays that we would be “strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy” (Colossians 1:11).
How we need this divine power and strength! At least some of the time, don’t we all feel physically weak or frail, emotionally fragile, mentally challenged? We may be socially powerless, financially insecure, spiritually anemic.
At all times, however, our God is willing not only to sustain us and bear us up (Psalm 68:19), but to infuse new energy and supply new resources for all our needs.
“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength” (Isaiah 40:29).
