China Institute Website's 30th Anniversary

One of the best ways to reach Chinese and those who seek to serve them well is through the Internet.

Despite ever stricter controls, many Chinese are still able to access Christian websites. Some live in mainland China, while others are scattered all over the world – Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South East Asia, North America, Australasia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe. Westerners who want to minister to the Chinese worldwide have no problems using the Internet, of course.

We have three sites:

  1. China Institute: Reaching Chinese Worldwide

  2. Global China Center

  3. The Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity

I also post articles on my personal blog.

The first and oldest of these is the platform of China Institute, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this fall. Today, I would like to invite you to explore that resource.

Getting To Know Us

To find out about our vision, mission, story, and team, click on “About.” You’ll learn that China Institute started in the 1989 with just Dori and me and has since grown to include about half a dozen partners and several assistants, living and working in four countries on three continents.

Articles

Over the years, I have posted dozens of articles and reviews on the “Blog” pages. Many of these draw out the practical lessons that we can derive from stories I’ve written for the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity or books I’ve reviewed for our Global China Center website.

In these articles, I ask, “What can we learn from” these books, or from the lives of outstanding missionaries like J. Hudson Taylor and Chinese Christians like Allen Yuan. When necessary, I don’t hesitate to criticize even such notable figures as Timothy Richard or major books on Chinese Christianity.

Newsletters

Every month, I write a theme-based prayer letter like this one. Many of these can be found on this part of our website. You can get a pretty good idea of what we’ve been doing and thinking by scrolling through these.

Books

As you know, God has enabled me to write a number of books over the past few years. You can find titles of eleven of these in the “Books” section of the site.

You may not know, however, that I’ve also composed other works and posted them on this site as free downloadable PDF files. They include my lectures on Lit-sen Chang, Mercy All the Way (my autobiography), as well as several biblical studies.

I’m especially excited to introduce two new “books” to you:

  1. Truth and Life: Doctrinal and Ethical Notes on the Bible. The first installment has notes on several of the Epistles and the Book of Revelation; it is almost 300 pages long.

  2. Chinese Christianity: A Review of the Literature, contains reviews of fifty representative books about Chinese Christianity. This 450-page collection provides an introduction to some of the best studies of what God has done among the Chinese. It should prove useful to students, teachers, scholars, and anyone eager to know more about the greatest movement of God in Christian history.

Finally, for those who want to know how to make contributions, this page gives both information and a convenient way to give.

Your Next Step

I know I’ve given you a lot of rather “dry” information. I just wanted to let you know about the wealth of material you can find on this website.

The best thing is for you to go to the site and browse around. Then tell others what you’ve found!

And please pray for God greatly to use reachingchineseworldwide.org to glorify his name among the Chinese and, indeed, among his people everywhere.
