We Magnify Him

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire . . . Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. Then I said, ‘Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God’” (Psalm 40:6-8a).

Dear Praying Friends:

Like all the Psalms, but more explicitly than most, this one points to Christ, being quoted in Hebrews 10:5-7, with the comment, “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:10).

Many churches around the world are observing Lent now as a season for remembering the gathering storm that would finally burst upon Jesus as he hung upon the cross for our redemption.

Here we see especially that Jesus delighted to do God’s will, even though it meant unspeakable agony and suffering, even unto death.

Thank you for praying last week.

The Lord enabled me to finish notes on 1 Thessalonians 5, prepare for the trip to Taiwan, continue working on the two presentations I am currently scheduled to give, and make arrangements to see a dozen people.

By way of reminder: I hope to be a blessing to all whom I meet as I listen and pray with them and share my experiences of God’s grace to me since my last visit there in 2013; increase my knowledge of the church in Taiwan and of Chinese culture and modern society; and refresh my Mandarin, which is quite rusty.

For your prayers (Pick two or three): Please ask God to

  • Move us to thank Jesus often for his sacrifice and fill us with the same willing spirit and even delight to follow in his steps of obedience, regardless of the cost.

  • Help me to complete the twenty or more tasks that remain and to make appointments with another dozen people.

  • Help me to finish preparing for the sermon and the talk to the seminary faculty.

  • Provide an opportunity to introduce the books on Carl Henry that have recently been published in Taiwan.

“Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, ‘The LORD be magnified!’” (Psalm 40:16).

Yours in his manifold mercies,
Wright
