“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:31).
Dear Praying Friends:
Four times in the psalm, the writer tells how God’s people “cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses” (Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, 28).
Five times, he calls us to remember God’s works of deliverance and to give thanks to him (1-2, 8, 15, 21, 31-32).
Such a pattern of repetition should grab our attention and cause us to reflect upon what God is saying to us. Here are a few things:
For a variety of reasons, some of them unknown to us, God allows, and even sends, trouble into his people’s lives. In such times of distress, we are to cry out to him, trusting that he will come to our aid in one way or another. When he does, we must give him thanks and praise, both privately and publicly.
“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy [lovingkindness] endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).
Yours in the love of our all-powerful Lord,
Wright
